BALTIMORE, MD — When two of Baltimore’s truly creative, most successful women-owned businesses come together, sparks are sure to fly! This is the case with Susannah Siger, longtime owner of Ma Petite Shoe in Hampden, and Susan Costa-Walston, owner and creator of the newly released Lily Trotters compression socks. Siger, who has successfully run her business for over 15 years in the same location decided to use the space next door and open up a specialty boutique that sells just socks, ranging from practical and warm to whimsical and fun. And, to add interest to the store, she has met and partnered with Susan Costa-Walston to feature her high-tech, USA-made designer performance compression socks called Lily Trotters, perfect for athletes, business travelers, women who are pregnant or those who sit or stand for long periods, as well as fashionable women on the go!
“I call the Sock Shop my happy place. I’m so excited to launch a new business that compliments our beloved shoes and chocolate. It’s energizing to work with a fellow woman entrepreneur who, like me, started with a dream and made it happen here in Baltimore…we are creative kindred spirits in that regard,” said Susannah Siger, owner of Ma Petite Shoe.
There will be a variety of Lily Trotters’ Signature CompressionTM socks available at the sock shop and will include several styles in the line such as Dots-A-Plenty, Candy Stripes, Lotus Om, Totally Solids, Holiday and their newest styles S’mitten and Course-It. They retail for $47.99, and will offer special pricing at the Grand Opening.
“I’m thrilled to be partnering with Ma Petite Shoe – one of my favorite shoe boutiques in Baltimore! I’ve admired Susannah’s keen eye for style and it makes perfect sense for her to be expanding into socks. I am eager to introduce compression to more people. Compression socks can help people live healthier, everyday. Lily Trotters Signature CompressionTM delivers on women’s desire for style and expanded benefits in a growing category that has historically lacked options, despite the expansion of health and fitness needs. Lily Trotters luxurious weave is designed to be thin enough to rock most shoes and unlike other compression socks, easy on and off. There are nine designs offered in twenty one colorways, that pair well with both a fashion and fitness wardrobe. They are a moderate compression (15-20 mm HG), the ideal strength for athletic performance and recovery, for travel, pregnancy, long periods of sitting and standing and to help keep legs healthy. Now, compression socks can be beautiful as high-tech gear for athletes or as a fashion accessory to help women live better. They are no longer the boring beige grandma compression socks of years gone by (sorry Grandma!).”
Walston launched Lily Trotters with a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015 where she pre-sold over 1,200 pairs of socks. She then opened an online store in Spring 2016 and has since grown her company to include sixteen sales representatives who are reaching out to retail stores nationwide. Lily Trotters are currently available on-line and at select retail locations in Baltimore and around the country.
Ma Petite Shoe, winner of three Best of Baltimore awards this year, is open seven days a week and is located in Hampden at 832 W 36th Street (The Sock Shop’s address is 830 W. 36th Street). Ma Petite Shoe features a vibrant assortment of shoes, chocolates from around the world and unique gifts and accessories. Lily Trotters, owned and operated by Baltimorean Susan Costa-Walston, features stylish, high-quality, USA-made designer and athletic compression socks that are made with a proprietary weave, cushioned heels, reinforced toes and anti-microbial and moisture wicking finish. They come in a range of colors and patterns and are meant to refresh and energize legs by increasing the blood flow from the legs to the heart, raising blood oxygen level. Lily Trotters began in 2015 with a Kickstarter campaign that was fully funded in under seven hours and went on to pre-sell more than $64K in socks before launching an online store in spring of 2016. Following rave reviews, Lily Trotters compression socks are now available in exclusive retail locations across Baltimore and the US.
